A Series of Unfortunate Events is a book series by Lemony Snicket that follows the three Baudelaire orphans after their parents die and a mystery relative takes them in. The relative happens to be Count Olaf who plans to steal the massive fortune the children were left by their parents. The events take place over 13 books and Count Olaf follows the children around in different disguises as they move from home to home to try and steal their fortune.
When I heard a series on Netflix was to be released based on the books I was so happy, it was one of my favorite book series as a child and I didn’t think the movie that was released back in 2004 did it justice. I was pleasantly surprised by how closely it followed the books; with two forty-five minute long episodes dedicated to cover each books it goes into great depth the movie couldn’t.
Today we’ll be putting together a Klaus Baudelaire Costume, the orphan who as you’ll remember is obsessed with reading books, the knowledge which he gains from them saving him and his siblings from many a stick situation with Count Olaf.
Table of Contents
Klaus Baudelaire Glasses
This first item you’ll need is Klaus’s oversized horn rimmed glasses which he uses to read the books that help save his siblings more times then they can count throughout the series. If you prefer take out the lenses so as not to stress your eyes.
Klaus Baudelaire Outfit
Next up is the outfit itself. You’ll need a brown coat and a red vest top to go underneath that. You can purchase these items online and get them delivered straight to your door or check out your local thrift stores for these items on a budget.
Don’t forget to add a pair of grey pants. You can either pick this up from the link above or check out your local thrift stores when you pick up the other items. Then just add a pair of browns shoes and you’re ready to go.
A Series of Unfortunate Events Spyglass
One accessory you can add to the costume is the spyglass the three orphans received from their parents. It was given to them after their passing as a ‘rite of passage’. The spyglass reveals several secrets about their parents later on in the series concerning a shadowy secret organization named V.F.D.
So there you have it, everything you’ll need to transform into this character for cosplay conventions and Halloween. Before you leave be sure to check out our other tutorials on the blog and follow us on social media for updates for new posts as they are published.
