Here’s how to create a Milo Atlantis costume inspired by one of the most underrated Disney movies: Atlantis The Lost Empire. An animated movie released in 2001 that focused on the adventures of Milo Thatch and his crew full of eccentric characters as they tried to locate Atlantis; the famous city which was completely submerged in water.
The movie didn’t perform well at the box office when it was released causing Disney to promptly cancel plans for a spin off television series and real life attraction at their park. Nevertheless Atlantis The Lost Empire has emerged as a cult classic. With a unique artistic style this movie is distinguished from other Disney films and has a completely different feel to it.
Both Princess Kida and Milo’s costumes are popular today at cosplay conventions with many celebrities re-creating this look; most notably Cole Sprouse from Disney’s Suite Life. I’ve created this cosplay myself before and it’s super easy to put together: a grey/cream turtleneck, spectacles, turquoise crystal necklace and green pants. This will be a popular look for years to come and we’ll show you everything you need to put it together below.
Milo Thatch Hair
Start by getting a reference image for the outfit you’d like to copy as there are a few different outfit he wears throughout the movie and subsequent sequel. As per usual we’ll begin at the top and work our way down. Milo has short brown/ blond hair, either wear your natural hair or a wig in a similar style/color such as the one shown above which comes with wig cap.
Milo Thatch Glasses
Along with the wig wear a pair of Harry Potter-esque wired rimmed glasses. Be sure to get a pair that aren’t going to strain your eyes over long periods or pop out the lenses.
Atlantis Crystal Necklace
Princess Kida is seen wearing a shard of Atlantean crystal which exudes mystical powers, Milo is given one later on. Above are two different types of crystals you could use: a turquoise crystal point necklace or for more authenticity a light up Kida necklace. This accessory will make your outfit instantly more recognizable and interesting.
Milo Thatch Cosplay
Let’s move onto the outfit itself. There are a few different looks to chose from so we’ll run through them all. As I mentioned above this outfit is fairly easily to put together, all you’ll need a green tank top and pair of green military style pants. Either pick this up from the link above, websites like Ebay, military stores or your local thrift stores.
The next look would be appropriate for Halloween (if where you live is cold that time of year) as you’ll be covered by a turtleneck and trench coat. So you’ll need a cream colored sweater or turtleneck and a green trench coat paired with a pair of green pants as above.
Cole Sprouse Milo Costume
Here is Cole Sprouse’s take on this iconic Disney character which is a great example to emulate. As you can see he showcases two different outfits Milo wears throughout the movie, and shows if you don’t have the exact items there’s no shame in improvising.
